Expert Meeting. Botagoz Rakisheva
On March 27, an expert meeting was held at the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies, dedicated to current issues of identity in the modern world.

The speaker of the event was Botagoz Rakisheva, Director of the “Public Opinion” Research Institute, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, member of the European Society for Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR), national representative of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) in Kazakhstan, and head of the World Values Survey-7 project in Kazakhstan.

The topic of her presentation — “Multiple Identity: The Case of the Kazakh Diaspora” — generated significant interest among participants. The presentation examined the features of the formation and transformation of identity among representatives of the Kazakh diaspora living in different countries. Particular attention was paid to the interaction of national, cultural, linguistic, and civic identities, as well as to the factors influencing their combination.

During her report, the speaker presented the results of sociological studies, including data from international comparative projects, and analyzed the impact of globalization processes and migration practices on the self-identification of Kazakh communities abroad. Special emphasis was placed on the role of value orientations, intergenerational differences, and the institutional environment in shaping multiple identity.

Among the invited guests were Klara Hafizova, a Kazakh orientalist scholar and Doctor of Historical Sciences, as well as Kalamkas Yessimova, analyst-methodologist of the “Public Opinion” Research Institute.

The meeting was held in the format of an open discussion, during which participants exchanged views on issues of preserving cultural identity, diaspora integration, and prospects for further research in this field.

Following the event, the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the study of identity and the need to continue academic dialogue on this topic were emphasized.
