Rustem Mustafin, Head of the Center for Digital Social Sciences at the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies (IPhPR), commented on U.S. President Donald Trump’s congratulatory message to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence.

According to the expert, the content of the message, the high level at which it was conveyed, and the emphasis on continuing the strategic partnership indicate Washington’s interest in further strengthening relations with Astana.

“The congratulations should be viewed as protocol in occasion but political in function,” Rustem Mustafin noted.
