A scientific approach to interethnic processes

On Friday, February 28, 2025, in Almaty, at the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies, an expert discussion was held on the topic: "A scientific approach to interethnic processes: theories, methods and forecasts." The event was organized by the IFPR Center for Political Studies of the National Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main purpose of the expert discussion was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of modern scientific approaches, techniques and theories in the field of research on interethnic relations and public policy. The participants of the discussion considered tools for forecasting and modeling ethnopolitical processes, mechanisms for regulating interethnic interactions. Special attention was paid to the comparative analysis of the Kazakh model of ethnopolitics with similar concepts in other countries, which revealed its unique features, effectiveness and prospects for further development.

During the discussion, interdisciplinary research combining data from political science, sociology, cultural studies and law was considered, which made it possible to assess the long-term prospects for ethnocultural interaction in Kazakhstan and the world. Republican sociological studies conducted in 2022-2024 are noteworthy. They showed stability in the sphere of interethnic relations in Kazakhstan. The overwhelming majority of respondents (92.5%– believe that relations between ethnic groups in their locality are favorable. More than 84% of the respondents agree that the state policy in the field of interethnic relations meets the interests of both their ethnic groups and the interests of all Kazakhstanis. The experts also discussed the role and place of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, which, by the way, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The main purpose of the Assembly is to regulate relations between different ethnic groups and promote the unity of Kazakh society. Despite the fact that the Assembly is not a state body, it was created to solve important tasks in this area and has been successfully fulfilling its mission for 30 years, being one of the key elements of state and public regulation of interethnic relations. The participants of the discussion noted that Kazakhstan has objective prerequisites for the formation of a nation as a politically organized community of citizens of the republic. These prerequisites include historical, economic, political, and cultural factors. Over the years of independence, an effective model of state national policy has been formed in the country, which provides ample opportunities for ethno-cultural self-determination. This makes it possible to create public organizations and ethno-cultural centers that contribute to solving various tasks in this area of public relations.
