Religious scholars of Kazakhstan discussed the risks of radicalization

The Republican Scientific and practical conference "Actual problems of Religious Studies in Kazakhstan" brought together leading scientists, teachers and students studying religious processes and their impact on modern society. The conference focused on an important topic – the prevention of radicalization.

What are the current challenges and how can the science of religious studies help in solving these problems?

Gulzhamal Dzhundybayeva, a 2nd-year master's student at FFiP KazNU specializing in Religious Studies, replied: "In our society, one of the most pressing intellectual problems is the spread of disinformation and the lack of critical thinking among the population. Religious studies is an interdisciplinary science that integrates knowledge from various disciplines and combines them to comprehensively solve current problems, as well as to create new ideas. In my opinion, projects aimed at media literacy education are needed. This should include the integration of knowledge from media production, information technology, and civic education, as well as practical workshops where participants will learn how to analyze information sources. In the field of religious orientation, measures to enhance critical thinking can be carried out by religious scholars.
