Experts Discuss the Role of Kurultai Elections in Implementing the “Just Kazakhstan” Concept

Today, the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies hosted an expert meeting titled “Elections to the Kurultai: A New Stage in Implementing Just Kazakhstan.”
The event was organized by the Center for Comparative Political Studies of the IPPR and the Center for Public Development of the Department of Internal Policy of Almaty.
Aigul Sadvokassova, Director General of the IPPR, delivered welcoming remarks. The meeting was moderated by Aidar Amrebayev, Head of the Institute’s Center for Comparative Political Studies.
The expert platform brought together Andrey Chebotarev, Director of the Alternative Center for Current Research; Askar Shomanov, Chief Research Fellow at the IPPR; Eduard Poletayev, President and Editor-in-Chief of the World of Eurasia Information and Analytical Journal; Askar Nursha, independent political analyst; and other leading Kazakhstani experts.
The discussion focused on the significance of the upcoming elections to the National Kurultai in the context of political reforms and the development of a Just Kazakhstan. Particular attention was given to the role of the Kurultai as an effective platform for public dialogue, strengthening interaction between the state and civil society, and developing proposals on pressing issues of public policy.
The experts noted that ongoing political reforms in Kazakhstan contribute to strengthening the principles of openness and accountability, while expanding citizens’ participation in socio-political processes. According to the participants, further improvement of the mechanisms for forming the National Kurultai will help enhance public representation and strengthen the effectiveness of dialogue between the state and society.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing expert discussions on political modernization, improving mechanisms of public participation, and further implementing the “Just Kazakhstan” concept.
