Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey: Current Situation and Prospects

 

On October 10, 2023, the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies (IPPSRS) hosted an international conference themed «Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey: Current Situation and Prospects». The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.

The IPPSRS was represented by a distinguished panel of speakers, including Prof. Serik Seidumanov, Director General of IPPSRS, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Sociology; Prof. Serik Nurmuratov, Director of the Center for Philosophy and Chief Researcher; Dr. Yuriy Buluktayev, Chief Researcher of the Center for Political Studies; and Mr. Rustem Mustafin, Research Fellow at the Center for Political Studies.

The Turkish delegation brought forth notable figures, including Mr. Evren Muderrysoglu, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty; Prof. Peyami Battal, representing the Rector of the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after K.A. Yassawi; Prof. Suat Beylur, the Director of the Institute of Eurasian Studies; Dr. Nurettin Chakyr, a lecturer of the University of Turan.

In inaugurating the conference proceedings, Prof. Seydumanov extended a warm welcome to the Turkish delegates and expressed his wish to thoroughly discuss issues of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual strategic interest. He underscored that the relationship between the two republics has evolved beyond economics, trade and politics, encompassing cultural, educational and historical-conceptual interactions. He emphasized that scholars play a pivotal role in delving deep into traditions and forging novel avenues of cooperation to enrich both nations scientifically and culturally.

Throughout the conference, experts delved into a diverse array of contemporary aspects concerning Kazakh-Turkish relations. These discussions spanned the political realm, exploring cooperative prospects at regional and global levels, including joint initiatives within international organizations. Likewise, opportunities to fortify trade and investment bonds between the two nations were examined, alongside the prospects of collaborative endeavors in the realms of energy, transportation, and tourism.

Concerning regional security, conference participants deliberated over collective endeavors aimed at fostering peace and stability in Central Asia. Cultural and educational facets were also given due consideration, with participants exploring avenues to expand cultural and academic exchanges between Kazakhstan and Turkey. Collaborative prospects in the domains of science and education were fervently discussed.

Participants underscored the historical and civilizational dimensions of the two republics' relations as a foundational element of their modern partnership. Scholars and experts lauded the state of international cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey, emphasizing their shared commitment to intensified cooperation and the exchange of accomplishments in science and culture, particularly in light of the increasing global volatility. They acknowledged the unique geographical and geopolitical positioning of the fraternal Turkic peoples on the continent.

In conclusion, the conference served as a fruitful platform for the exchange of viewpoints and ideas, as well as a catalyst for strengthening academic and scientific bonds between Kazakhstan and Turkey.
