An information session organized by Children’s Library No. 39 of the Almaty City Libraries addressed one of the most pressing issues of social stability. During the event, I delivered a presentation titled “Religious Extremism and Terrorism as Threats to Public Security,” focusing on the scientific and social foundations of these threats and mechanisms for their prevention.

Modern research shows that religious extremism is not merely a religious phenomenon but, first and foremost, a socio-psychological phenomenon aimed at manipulating individuals’ consciousness through destructive ideologies. Its most radical manifestation—terrorism—poses a direct threat to the constitutional foundations of the state, as well as to the lives and spiritual security of citizens.

The presentation highlighted the following key scientific and practical approaches to preventing religious extremism:

✅ Information and religious literacy. One of the key factors contributing to vulnerability to destructive movements is insufficient religious knowledge and the uncritical consumption of information. It is essential to help young people distinguish genuine spiritual values from radical ideologies.

✅ Cybersecurity and digital awareness. Today, extremist organizations increasingly use social networks and messaging platforms for propaganda and recruitment. Therefore, strengthening digital hygiene and media literacy is an important preventive measure.

✅ National identity and cultural heritage. The traditional spiritual values of the Kazakh people, a culture of tolerance, and the principles of a secular state can serve as a strong internal safeguard against external radical ideologies.

Holding such information sessions in libraries and other cultural and educational institutions makes a significant contribution to strengthening young people’s conscious civic position and enhancing public security.
