Expert Meeting on Migration from Central Asia
On September 4, 2026, the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies (IPhPR) hosted an expert meeting with Larisa Viktorovna Kangaspuro, a researcher at the Aleksanteri Institute – Finnish Centre for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Helsinki (Finland).

•  The meeting was opened with welcoming remarks by Aigul Sadvokasova, Director General of the Institute.

As part of the meeting, an analytical report entitled “Migration from Central Asia to the Baltic States and Northern Europe: Scale, Routes, Legal Regimes, Communities and Labour Mobility” was presented.

The expert discussion focused on current migration trends, the main destinations and routes of migration from Central Asian countries to the Baltic states and Northern Europe, as well as the specific features of the existing legal frameworks.

Particular attention was paid to labour mobility, the role of digital networks and intermediaries in migration processes, and the impact of migration experience in Russia on subsequent migration strategies.

The participants also discussed the formation of migrant communities, social ties, and the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers.

✔️ The expert discussion was attended by Botagoz Rakisheva, Director of the Public Opinion Research Institute; Olga Isupova, Professor of Sociology at Narxoz University; as well as researchers and staff members of the IPhPR.
