Uzbekistan has significantly increased its role in China’s investment projects largely due to a targeted strategy implemented by both the Chinese and Uzbek sides, says Ruslan Izimov, China expert and leading researcher at the Center for Comparative Political Studies of the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science, and Religious Studies.
He identifies as the main factor the institutional liberalization measures adopted in Uzbekistan nearly ten years ago, which have now begun to yield tangible results.
“With the establishment of clearer and more transparent conditions by the Uzbek authorities, Chinese investors have gradually begun to expand their presence,” the expert explains.
