International Scientific and Practical Conference Dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization
On July 17, 2026, the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies (IPhPR) hosted the international scientific and practical conference “The Shanghai Cooperation Organization in a Changing World Order,” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The conference was jointly organized by the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies and the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).

The participants were welcomed by Aigul Sadvokassova, Director General of the IPhPR; Professor Yin Dongmei, Chair of the University Council of Shanghai International Studies University; Su Fangqiu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty; and Professor Bulat Sultanov, Chairman of the Board of the One Belt, One Road Expert Club.

The conference was moderated by Aidar Amrebayev, Head of the Center for Comparative Political Studies at the Institute.

During the conference, participants examined current challenges and prospects for the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, issues related to the emerging world order, regional security, and the expansion of international cooperation.

Presentations were delivered by Professor Bulat Sultanov, Professor Yang Cheng, Executive Dean of the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies, Guliziyi Baishan, Head of the Department of Central Asian Languages at the School of Russian and Eurasian Studies of Shanghai International Studies University, and Ruslan Izimov, Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Comparative Political Studies of the IPPR.

The discussion focused on the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization amid the transformation of the contemporary international system, prospects for cooperation among SCO member states, as well as key issues of sustainable development and strengthening mutual trust across the Eurasian region.
