“The Role of Social Sciences and Humanities in Shaping the Space of the New Constitution”

On April 13, 2026, in Almaty, in celebration of Science Day, the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies, the A. Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics, and the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art held a joint extended session titled “The Role of Social Sciences and Humanities in Shaping the Space of the New Constitution.”
Around 90 prominent scholars and research staff from the institutes took part in the event.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the new opportunities opened by the 2026 constitutional reforms for the development of humanities research, the strengthening of national ideology, and the identification of strategic directions for society.
An invited speaker, member of the working group on drafting the new Constitution, Doctor of Law, Professor E. Duissenov, outlined the key directions of the constitutional reform.
From the National Academy of Sciences, presentations were delivered by Doctors of Economics and academicians O. Sabden and A. Satybaldin, as well as Candidate of Philological Sciences A. Fazylzhan.
Representing the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies, Doctor of Sociological Sciences and Director General A. Sadvokassova also delivered a speech.
The main topics discussed included:
• the role of national ideology in strengthening social cohesion;
• the impact of constitutional changes on social sciences and humanities;
• the significance of institutional innovations for the academic community;
• prospects for the development of linguistic and cultural studies within the framework of the new Constitution.
Participants noted that the humanities play a key role in shaping societal values, developing civic identity, and strengthening democratic institutions.
