Meeting with Sociologist Azamat Junisbai

On June 30, the Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies hosted a meeting with sociologist Azamat Junisbai, Professor at Pitzer College (Claremont, USA) and a native of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, Professor Junisbai spoke about his academic career, the main areas of his research, and his experience within the U.S. higher education system. Particular attention was devoted to issues of national identity formation in Kazakhstan, public perceptions of the country’s historical past, the role of the state language, as well as contemporary social and political developments.
The participants engaged in an open discussion on current issues related to public opinion, social change, and the prospects for identity research in Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties discussed potential avenues for future academic and research cooperation, including joint research projects, scholarly events, and the development of professional partnerships.
